A break in

I guess it had to happen, we have had a break in late afternoon today. As far as we can put together, it happened between 6-7pm. Someone has broken in through a back window and checked out the entire house. No damage has been done but they have ripped off protective sheets from most cupboards and have had a good look through the place. Our best guess is that it is a builder coming in for a bit of a sticky. They also broke into the house next door and did much the same thing. At least nothing has been stolen or broken but they did leave all doors unlocked.

In terms of progress, because the doors were open we were able to get in ourselves and noted
- house looks like the scene from ET when they cover the house with plastic. All windows, doors and cupboards are covered up.
- first coat of paint has been applied via spraying as opposed brushing. Is this how it is done these days?
- some architraves and skirts are still missing
- staircase posts (which of course should have been SS) have been painted
- staircase base plate has been painted when it should have been stained
- many marks have been placed on the walls where the plaster is NQR

Progress has been slow again this week as our SS has taken a much needed week off to get married. Congrats N, hope all went well.

No reply on the staircase issue as yet - expecting something back by Wednesday once our administrator has a chance to chat with N.

I feel gutted when I read these. What do they hope to gain, particularly as it is still day time?
The big plus is that no damage was done, so perhaps its best a tradie breaks in than destructive kids.
Hopefully things wont come to a complete stop with your S awya.

It's quite disheartening to find someone has broken in isn't it? The word "shitheads" has been used alot on our visits to our house.

Good that their was no damage. Hope they didn't leave the doors unlocked to come back during the night and take stuff......

Hope things get sorted about your staircase asap.

Yep, the first coat of paint is sprayed and then the 2nd/3rd is rolled on. Are you happy with your colour? What is it?

I just don't get the mentality behind acts of idiocy like that.......WHY????

Hope the staircase issue gets sorted out soon - fingers crossed for the RIGHT response ;-)

I get the eeeky feeling when I know someone has broken into the house. At least nothing was damaged. Alot of idiots out there tho. Newbies just told me we had some crap dumped on our block which we'll now be responsible for removing properly.

All the best for the staircase too. PD really should do the right thing here.

Hi G&V,
Wouldn't you just love to catch these scumbags in the act and rip them a new a*hole!!

I'm guessing it's definitely someone in the building trade because they were looking in the cupboards - that's where most supervisors and tradies put all the basins, sinks, taps, etc (it's a well known trade process), until they are installed. It keeps them out of the way so they don't get damaged and also out of sight from thieves.

At least your place was thoroughly and properly wrapped in preparation for painting, unlike our woeful newspaper effort!

Looking forward to an update on the stairs.

Cheers
Liana

Hey guys,

Your home is progressing well, pity about the break in, its quite common...we too had a breakin, followed by a theft that night...:(

In regards to your staircase, put more pressure on PD to deliver exactly what was specified as per the contract. If its writing they have to warrant it. Remember, you're paying them to build your home, as per the agreed contract/post variations documents, and dont settle for anything less. Emails often do the trick...:)

The rowland is a nice home, actually there is one being built in the brimbank gardens estate, derrimut. Opening Early jan...

Chat soon
